The playful brain
Our brains are designed to play and our brains are designed for play. We naturally go towards play, fooling around, it just can’t be stopped, well not completely. Western culture has certainly put it into it’s own little basket over there, way over there. You can play if you do your work first or when you have time after all the serious thing of life. But things are changing.
Scientists are finding out that play in its self, and of its self, is fundamental in the development and maintenance of the brain’s plasticity. In other words real play creates neuro networks throughout the brain from birth, (probably before) and continuing throughout our entire life, if we remember to play. Play makes us more intelligent, trusting, empathetic co-operative, adaptable and much more. Play is actually creating neuro networks in the brain and helping to maintain them. Science is realizing play has a profound biological process.
